````My Sweet Layla```
How's everyone enjoying this hot humid weather were having?
I said before I wasn't going to one of those that complain about the hot weather after
that long cold miserable winter we had but holy cow this is ridiculous...
You can't even go outside for very long the heat takes your breath away..
I love summer and all that, but enough is enough.....
In between taking short breaks inside with the AC I have been getting
allot of painting projects done...
Within minutes of painting outside the things are dry..Nothing like the hot
sun hurrying up my to do list...
I've been trying to keep busy and keep my mind off losing another loving
pet in our family....You see my daughter and son-in-law had adopted an
English Shepard dog last February from a shelter..Her name was Layla and she was
neglected and abused her entire life...Kristin and Travis fell in love with her
as soon as they layed eyes on her...She was a special needs dog that required allot of loving and patience...
She has had seizures since the Shelter had gotten her and no one really wanted a dog
that needed that much care...
I am so proud of these two kids that stepped up to the plate and took her
in when no one else would give her a second glance.....
All she wanted was someone to love her and take care of her.....
Even though she had some issues to work out she was a very loving and kind sweet girl...
Her seizures would happen about every six weeks and with medicine she seemed to
be getting along fairly well...She loved being with her new mom and dad and they worshiped the ground this
sweet girl walked on....
With Travis being in the Air Force he was deployed on July 5th for 90 days overseas but Layla was adjusting
not having dad there fairly well...
Kristin would go home at lunch time to check on her and take her out for a walk...
This past Thursday Kristin went home at lunch time as always and Layla was happy to
see Mom..They had there time together and Kristin went on back to work ...
When she arrived home that evening Layla wasn't at the top of the steps like she usually
is waiting to greet her and she found her  in the bathroom having a seizure...
Over the course of that night and into Friday Layla was having back to back seizures and
Kristin took her to the animal hospital where she had been treated several times before...
This time was different thought Layla wasn't coming out of the seizure like she should...
It didn't look good and Kristin had to make the painful decision on having her put to sleep...
She called me from the animal hospital just devastated and crying...
It just broke my heart when I heard her on the phone...
All you mothers know what its like hearing you child on the other end of the phone
so hearth broken beyond words that all you want to do is take the pain away that they are suffering..
Were a hour and a half dry away from each other so I packed my bags and
went to be with her...
We spent the weekend together and we took long walks and talked about Layla non stop...
I told her how proud of her and Travis for taking Layla in when no one else would ..
They gave her 5 good months of living the good life...Lots and lots of toys and a big bed she called her own..
A mom and dad that loved her more than anything ...
Even though Travis couldn't be there at the end Kristin was with her and Layla knew mom was there..
This is a tribute to a sweet girl that we only had in our lives for 5 months and a very special girl that we
all will never forget..
Thanks for letting me cry again for this loving little girl that became apart of our lives..
She will be greatly missed and we are so very grateful for having her the short time we did...
Prim hugs,
Trena
Oh Trena - I am so very sorry for your loss - and for Kristin's and Travis's....You've got me in tears here....All I can say is, God Bless those two for showing that little dog love and giving her a wonderful forever home at last. She was with one she loved the best in the end...and that has to have meant the world to her. Wishing you and your daughter peace and comfort in knowing Layla's in a much better place now....Hugs & Blessings ~ Robin
Special blessings to your 'kids' for taking such loving care of Layla. I am happy she had the Best of her life at the end and had someone loving with her.
God bless you all, and I am with you on this heat...a bit TOO hot for my taste!
Trena, I am so sorry for your loss but I can empathize with Kristin. We had a little cock-a-poo for years and he started having seizures. I medicated him daily but as time passed his seizures became more and more frequent. I had to make the decision myself. It was very difficult. I only have pleasant memories of Corky. His picture still hangs in my bedroom after 19 years.
Layla was so fortunate to have a family that loved her. You know her last days were full of love and tenderness and your memories of her will be so precious, as will the photos. Please know that my thoughts are with all of you.
Awwww a beautiful dog. I am so glad she had such loving family to take care of her after someone didn't want to.
The best part of the story was she was loved. She didn't die in a shelter and I think that's great. Blessings to Layla's family and I look forward to hearing about an adoption in the future.
